One of the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa cars from the hit 1980s show Miami Vice is to be sold at auction on 15th August 2015, even if you have no interest looking like Sonny Crockett, this is still a beautiful Prancing Horse.
Tubbs and Crockett used the Ferrari as their company car as they fought the Miami underworld during the late 1980s.
The white Testarossa became one of the TV’s most famous motors on the back of the show’s success, but when the series ended in 1989, the Ferrari was retired and placed in storage for the next 25 years.
It has now re-emerged and, after a £5,000 service, the owner has entered it into Mecum Auctions’ Monterey sale in August.
The 1986 Ferrari Testarossa is powered by a 4.9-litre which gives it a top speed of around 180mph, it has cruise control, air conditioning and is one of the rare single flying mirror model.
Mecum Auctions hasn’t revealed how much it should sell for, but it is expected to fetch a significant amount more than the £170,000 a Testarossa is typically worth – this Testarossa is quoted with just 16,124 miles and authentication by Ferrari North America and Ferrari Classiche.
It said: “Crockett and Tubbs may have ridden off into the sunset, but the Miami Vice Testarossa remains an enduring icon of one of the most influential television series of all time.”
Another white Testarossa showed up on eBay last year claiming to be one of the Miami Vice hero cars, it will be interesting to see how Mecum’s Ferrari performs on the auction block in Monterey.
